Department of
Electronics(DOE), Government of
India has recognized the potential of software exports and formulated the
Software Technology Scheme (STP).As part of the scheme DOE has established
of Software Technology Parks India (STPI). An autonomous society set up by
Deptt. Of Electronics, Govt. of India for promoting export of software
& services by providing conductive environment & infrastructure
facilities

Objectives of STPI
-
To
establish and manage the infrastructure Resources such as Data
Communication facilities , Core Computer facilities, Built-up Space etc.

To provide services Import Certification, Software
Valuation,Project approval etc. To
the users who undertake Software Development for Export purposes.

To promote
Development & Export of Software Services through Technology
Assessments, Market Analysis, Market Segmentation, Marketing Support etc.
-
To train
professional and encourage design and development in the field of software
technology and software engineering.

Highlights of STP Scheme
- All the imports to STP units are
duty free.
- STP units are exempted from
payment of Income Tax for a block of five years in the first eight
years of its operation under Section 10 A and 10B of Income Tax Rules.
- STP units are entitled to sell the
computer software in Domestic Tariff Area(DTA) are entitled for the
benefits like levy of excise duty and reimbursement of Central Sales
Tax (CST).
- 100% Foreign equity is
permissible.
- Computer System in STP units are
allowed for training purposes within the premises of STP unit.
- Capital invested by foreign
entrepreneurs know how fees , royalty, dividend, etc. can freely
repatriated after payment of income taxes due on them if any.
